before removing the choke assembly from the carb. wire the disk to the air cleaner cover so the religious ball and spring stay in place.

+1 on the install thing.
First time I went to do it I had the wrong spring. Gave up after 2 hours and put the thing away for 6 months. When I finally got back to it I had lost those two parts. Bought new ones and was ab;e to assemble it in less than 45 minutes.
Just by the by, Rube Goldberg invented that setup.

If you can find one, the disconnector spring from an M-2 Carbine ( U.S. Carbine, Cal .30, M-2) works perfectly. You probably can find them at Numrich Arms in N.Y. or at larger gun shows. One end is slightly belled and is retained well in the hole.
I bought a ten pack of USGI ones years ago and ended up using all of them .
The ball bearings can be found at almost any hardware store.

The ball bearings can also be found under my workbench, under my bar fridge, under my bike lift and in the various corners of my work shop.

I apply grease to the ball and spring, if it falls out it sticks to the first thing it hits. when it's together the grease makes it work smooth as well.

I did put a little grease on it and it did help to keep things in place somewhat.
