dave h, next time you drain oil tank could you drop a light bulb in tank and report back on what, if any , plumbing is attached to the inside of your feed fitting?

is the rear mounting boxed?

dave c eluded to it----
there was shenanigans with these tanks mid 61 to mid 62.
what you have may shine light on it.

from what i can tell this is an op 61 tank.

Just to keep this going, here are a couple shots of mine. I'll try to remember & check the inside when change the oil...

i'm quoting myself here... Pulled the tank from my K/XL hybrid & drained it to get a pic. Not the best quality but good enough to see that there's no tube, just a flange for the bung, i'm going to strip the chrome, paint it & put it on my -62 (where it belongs).
