57 Choke Setup

Postby Zaemo » Sun Jan 31, 2016 12:53 pm

This week I discovered the one year only choke setup for the '57. I gather one year only parts of any kind put them in the rare category. Does this lever setup share any parts with other H-D models or years or is this just going to be something to watch for?

While I don't have an actual choke set up, I do have plenty of pics. They are not easy to come by.

Photobucket is giving me a hard time, these are the only two I can grab. I have some pictures of an early 57 choke installed.

Cool, H. I wonder if it was an all or partial year thing.

It was used on all 1957 models. I have heard there are 3 versions of the choke lever, but I will leave it to the real experts to explain the nuances.

All parts are 1957 specific. Good luck!

You can find this information at this site under Technical, DC Linkert Carbs. Old Dude was repopping the first of the 3 choke lever versions that was located to the rear of the horn power pack. I have been told that they moved it to the front of the power pack because if your knees were hugging the tank you could possible move the choke. I think Old Dude might be sold out of these. I think they went to the third version when the changed the horn power pack bracket from metal to a rubber like bracket. I believe it had to change at that point for clearance reasons. There are notes on the pictures that may prove helpful. All the parts are 57 only including the air cleaner backing plate. You occasionally run into parts of the setup but they are rare. If it is for your rider perhaps some of us that are rat-holing these parts could be shamed into parting with some.

OK, let the shaming begin. Yes this is for my rider. If anyone felt like setting any of these parts free from their long hiding, I would be interested. Just think, those parts tucked away somewhere could once again feel the acceleration, speed and freedom of the open road. The new caretaker of your goods would be a responsible new owner and treat the parts with care and promises to keep them well lubricated in service. :)

Hi guys,
I'm new to the forum, but came across it after googling the parts I'm looking for.
Anyway, I live in oz, and have just bought a 57 XL sporty I plan on restoring back to factory specs, but it needs a few things.
The bits I need are, gas tank, nacelle, headlight, linkert dc1, choke lever and backing plate, gas tank emblems.
If anyone has this stuff lying around and would be willing to part with them, please let me know.
Cheers
