Model 61 Generator finish

What is the correct finish for the Model 61 generator on my 1962 XLCH?

There are four parts: gear end, main body, commutator end, brush cover "band". And then the regulator mount. I suspect gloss black for all, but I thought I'd ask.

Model 61 Generator finish & other parts paint

Postby EKHKHK56 » Tue Aug 05, 2014 4:08 pm

Dave, I asked a question like that about frame color, other black items, not the Body Panels, Fenders or Tanks and Jerry R had an answer from a restorer/painter. Non Body parts would be an 80% gloss black. Body panels, Fenders and tanks would be 100% Glossy as in the Brilliant Black HD color. Also the painter said many Ks and other early HDs have too fancy of a paint job. He was talking about doing ONE final color coat, not many coats that many do to make a nicer, deep look. (Saves paint also) Rivets should stand out, well defined, etc. Does any body have additional information on this important subject? Thank You, Erik
