1957 Sportster Paint

Hi Guys!

My name is Gary and I'm new to the harleyKmodel site. I met some of you in Davenport this year. ***Dave C - Thanks for the advise on cleaning the side covers!

I am restoring a 1957 Sportster and I am trying to find paint codes for the Black and Red Pepper. I have hunted around on this site, but can't really find a new code to match these colors. Can anyone direct me to the right location please? I'm ready to get the correct front fender painted.

Looking forward to chatting with all of you. This site is awesome and will help me to get the detailed information for restoring my bike back to the right condition.

Thanks for the pepper red advice.

How about the 1957 Black. Are all black paints the same color? Any suggestions for the black paint brands and types?

I'm having a friend that restores and paints cars do the paint on the front fender.

Hi Gary. Welcome. I'm not sure if we met at Davenport. It was my first time and met a lot of the folks in here for the first time face to face.
I just finished painting my bike. I'll start a thread about it here soon.
John Pierce at
http://www.hdpaint.tk
helped me out a great deal. I purchased the base coats from him and he gave me a program for the whole process. I had a little experience but not much. I'm really happy with my results. John will tell you that there are many black colors. The black I got is the blackest of blacks. It would change in name to "Brilliant Black," a H-D color your jobber can look up.
He also sent me Birch White. It's not cheap but you don't want to half-step the color. You'll wind up with a Redi she and dark brown bike when you roll it outside.
I bought the primer, sealer and topcoat locally.
Good luck. You must be fairly far along if you're thinking about paint.
