Chad,

I'd suggest you get a copy of The Legend Begins. It's available at your local Harley dealer (they might have to order it), as Part# 99403-93. It has photos of all the Harleys from 1903 through 1969, and a wealth of other information. Then when you see a bike for sale, you can see what a 1967 XLCH is supposed to look like, and compare with the bike that is for sale. Yeah, TLB has just one small photo of one side of each year/model, but it's an important resource.

It would be nice if we had lots of great photos of nicely restored K/Xls of each year and model in our Gallery section, but the unfortunate fact is that there are few nicely restored bikes out there - both for us to have photos, and for you to buy.

Here's a good exercise for developing your "critical eye" - look at the photos of Dave Carlton's 1966 XLCH in the Gallery, then look at the 1967 XLCH in New Holland, and you tell us what's wrong with the one for sale. The more you look, the more you'll find. Heck, the first thing that's "wrong" is right in the title of the ad!

two of those bikes are way worse than the earlier 58.
when you see chrome there most likely is something going on inside that isnt real good.

the Waukesha bike has some appeal to a restorer but its gonna be a labor of love. i see that bike as raw material pbobly not a turn key rider.
to get back to this is gonna take some real dedication.

Ditto on the condition and originality of both of those bikes. Ridden hard and put away wet. The ideal restoration candidate is what Dave H found with the 62CH, a mostly if not complete, a documented history and unmolested power train. A real diamond in the rough.

waiting for a bike like daves 62ch to surface may put you in the grave first.
unless you wantta pay out the wazoo- then there are plenty of bikes around.

Funny, I was just at the Harley Museum last weekend and I didn't see that book there. I'll order it. I have the book that covers the bikes at the museum which skips years.

I do not like the touring versions of these bikes. They just don't do it for me. I was already watching that one on eBay just to see what kind of money it would bring.

I'll just keep looking. I was hoping to find a bike before spring fever hits. I can only assume buying and selling is more of a frenzy in a couple months from now.

Thanks guys.

ok im confused.
didnt you originally want a k/kh?
the only road going versions were basically the same style as the xl/xlh.

so the k/kh is no longer is your sights, a 59-69 xlch is what your really lookin for?
if so thats way easier.

Maybe I said that wrong. I don't like the shape of the tank on the eBay sportster. I thought that low almond tank was considered the touring style. It looks more Euro to me. I have been steered away from a KH or KHK from a cost and ease of use stand point from the guys on here and elsewhere.

I love the 57-58 larger tanks and the smaller peanut tanks. I Am gravitating towards the 57-64 area.
