Staircain, if there is no difference in the length between k and kh valves, then where is the difference made up in the longer KH cylinders? Is it as panic is asking?? Is there really 3/8 longer adjuster threads on KH tappets?

There is 5/16" difference between K and KH tappet adjusting screw lengths. If you look in the parts book you will see that K,KH, KHK and later KK all use the same exhaust valve so all would be same length. As mentioned earlier, intake valves are the same length as the exhaust with different size heads.
wb56, it sounds like you may be on to something with the aftermarket valve springs.

staircain, Thanks for that info, good to know since I will be putting a KH together some time in the future, and since I didn't have cyinders for it originally I'm sure I don't have those tappets.

starcain, kudos goes to thefrenchowl who posted the pics of the OEM compaired to the aftermarket springs. The aftermarket springs I bought replace the part number 18200-32. In the "K" parts manual it lists these as 54 -56 but doesn't specify model. In my spare parts catalog years 1954-65 it lists this part number and only specifies KH but NOT KHK. Maybe dumb question but what is the part number for a KHK spring? I will post in the parts exchange that I am looking for a OEM set of KHK springs, part number unknown (unless someone finds it in one of there manuals).

I have never come across any information that would indicate that a KHK valve spring is any different then the KH. I believe when the parts book says 54 to 56 they mean all K models through those years, so part number for the KHK valve spring would be 18200-32

That may be true for the OEM springs but it's not true for the aftermarket folks out there selling springs as replacement part #18200-32. As Patrick said in his post, they might work on a KH (and probaly do), but will cause coil bind on KHK's. Something they kinda should tell customers, don't ya think?

K springs have 11 coils, KH, KHK have 9. Valves I make from 56 Chevy 6 cyl Intakes. Just have to trim length and keeper slot. 2mm bigger Head than KHK, and 30° Angle like KR. Someone is selling KH KHK stock valves but I forgot who, even they were semi fit needing keeper slots opened up....Springs, Eastern made a bunch, -32# that are 9 coils. Erik K

Erik, the springs I bought that were supposed to replace 18200-32 were from "Eastern". Look just like the ones in thefrenchowl's post referenced in this thread. NO one, and I'm pretty sure NO one, is selling any KH replacement spring 18200-32 with 9 coils. None , notta, no where, ain't none out there. P.S. I've called you several times and you never answer your phone and you never call me back. Bill

wb56, "You are not correct sir" There are 2 sellers on fleabay who list 9 coil "performance" K KK springs. one goes by cyclefab and they are in Bloomburg Pa. ( may be aligned with Bill's?) and I think they may be the guys running a flathead at Bonneville that's gone about 160 mph unblown The other outfit is cyclemosmotorclothes both list installed height about 1.950 and coilbind 1.500
