Curious if someone can confirm the finish on the crossover. The "Finishes" page indicates it to be parkerized with cad fittings (if I read it correctly) but the -56 crossover isn't listed until the 57 book.

I have the horizontal loop and it appears to be painted, made of copper.

Any input appreciated!

All the K gas tank crossover lines were cad plated copper, fittings and line. The '52 -'53 versions were vertical loops. 1954 to 1956 were horizontal loops. The loops on the 1954 and 1955 models pointed inward towards the motor. In 1956 the loop started pointing towards the front when they changed the frame dynamics.

There isn't a lot of cad left on my '56 crossover but it was definitely all cad at one time.

I have to make a correction to my earlier post. The 1955 models may also have had the crossover line loop pointing to the front. I thought it was because of the change in the frames but maybe not. Just looked at a picture in the 1955 enthusiast announcement issue and it does show the loop towards the front. I will have to do some more checking.

What I meant was that the nuts and line are both Cad plated not that the nuts are copper. Nuts are steel.

Also I was informed by someone that they thought the crossover lines were steel. I have a total of 7 crossover lines, 3 vertical and 4 horizontal. One vertical is NOS with Harley Davidson sticker still attached. Out of the 7 there is one vertical that is in fact steel. Not the NOS one though. That NOS one is copper. I really don't know if the steel one may be a reproduction or if in fact they made some steel ones but mostly copper ones? So I can't say with 100% confidence that ALL crossover lines were copper.

If anyone else has information on this subject I would love to hear it.

Thanks for the detailed replies, Stan! I was pretty sure copper was correct.

I have both copper and steel. Have to check them out. FURNACE SUPPLY companies like Ferguson Plumbing make new copper ones in different lengths. With Brass AN4 ends and ready built. Than you have to do that coiling thing..because they are straight. My 56KHK Late Fuel Tank has rubber hose crossover like XL. The one w rocker indents.
