This is my first visit to this site. Thanks for the invite Dave!

A very interesting discussion so far. Excellent shots of the late 56 K tank! I had heard of these before but have never seen one.

Not really adding anything enlightening but here are a few pics for general interest for the topic.

DaveS's picture of his 56Ks gas tank connecting line got me thinking. RogerM told me he thought that there were possible 3 versions of the K steel gas tank connecting lines. If you look at Daves 56 shown below and picture the gas tank connecting line turned around to face the back like we are contending the 54K did, the angle of the horizontal part looks like it would contact the cylinder head?

Now look at the connecting line for the Legend Begins 54K with it facing the rear. Doesn't the angle of the horizontal piece look different then on Dave's 56? Am I imagining it or does it appear to be unique for the 54K?

Greetings DaveS, long time no see! Thank You for sending the 56 tank blueprint for the stripe. My 56 tank was red originally but with no stripe, factory looking paint, strange as I thought all 56s had the stripe. For some reason this tank did not. Maybe it was a replacement and hadn't received the stripe after being painted red. That stripe has to be perfect or it looks terrible! Dave it will be great having your input on questions and problems, welcome aboard. Erik

Dave S.,

I understand you have a really sweet 1956 KHK. If you've got some good photos, email 'em to me, and I'll make a page in the Gallery section - we're trying to feature only "exemplar" bikes so others know what a correct restoration looks like. That durn Dave Carlton keeps sending in examples of his immaculate 1960's XLCHs, and we need to balance that out with more examples of correct K-models.

Dave you and your 56 are an inspiration to all who desire a fine K. If I remember right I spoke to you right after completion, you mentioned 730 days of concentrated effort amongst other hurdles. She is a beauty! Cheers, Erik

Erik, it was 6 years of constant parts hunting followed by a few pleasant months of assembly.
