Ho badger34, Welcome. I have two of the First Edition printings of the Handbook and both as you state have the wiring diagrams pasted in. I wonder if there is a wiring diagram under the pasted one that was modified? I don't want to destroy a handbook checking but I am curious and if there is what did they change?
Have a great day,

Well, not sure mine is a "first edition" but I have no pasted-in page. Here is a picture, unless Dave thinks it violates Harley copyright, and is welcome to take this down. Since the issue is one of history and accuracy, I claim fair use-- and it is a low-res picture.

Well, yours must be earlier since mine does not say first edition anywhere on the cover. Mine might be a phony, there is a whole cottage industry making reprint manual, but mine does look old an authentic. I will pour over the two diagrams, but I suspect they are the same, what is a curiosity is what is under your pasted-in page.

Hello all - I've been involved in the print / advertising industry for 30+ years. Paste over corrections were common place in the letter press and early offset printing days. These corrected copies were normal early copies from the press when some one (proof readers / press room leading hand) may have picked up errors or perhaps that particular page plate was damaged / had marks / poor reproduction etc. etc. Plates may have been change mid print run to correct errors / poor reproduction. Or the reprinted pages pasted over usually during the binding process at the end of the run. It's not uncommon to have half of a particular edition with past over pages and the other half normal. Interesting - but nothing unusual about the process with publishers & printers early days. In this case the interesting thing is finding out why...was it a reproduction fault? was it an error in the diagram? did HD change something from the original diagram?...Cheers Hayley
