1954 KHK

Postby hennesse » Sun Apr 24, 2016 10:41 am

Hope everyone had a good time at Oley - it was great to see so many OSKRG-ers there, especially the Brothers Raino and the Brothers Benazzi.

While there, someone asked me about factory documentation of the 1954 KHK. The only thing I have found is the September 1954 Enthusiast (announcing the new 1955 models). The word "again" implies that they were available in 1954. I suspect only a very few, very late in the model year.

Did these have trap doors? If you've got a 1954 KHK, please email or PM me with your trapdoor status, and your serial/belly numbers so we document these dual mysteries.

Dave

My 54 KHK is #2525 with trap door. But Replacement case so not app. Further documentation is in many places in the -56 1952-1956 Spare Parts Book. Particularly in the Cylinder, Heads and Cams section. Erik K

I wasn't at Oley, touch too far for me, stuck in GB!!!

But I've already got a 2016 Oley pic of the good DR JOE with his favourite sparkler in hand, a Fairbanks Morse!!

Image

I wonder how many versions he's got of THAT tee shirt!!!

; O )

My 54 KHK, the Bonneville bike, is 54 KHK 2540 and has no trap door...

Erik, the 56 parts book is ambiguous... it lists 54 to 56 KHK cylinders/pistons but the cams listed are only for 53KK and 56KHK!!!

The 55 Parts Catalogue, issued June 54, does not list parts for KHK at all...

But we all know there are 54 & 55 KHK...

Yes the individual cams say 53, 56 I know they mean 53KK-56KHK. :) The entire set #25500-53 is listed 54-56KHK. Erik

Hey Dave, I had a set of 54KHK motor cases that I sold to the guy who bought my 54KH back in 2002. I took these pictures of it but forgot where they were. Finally found them on an old floppy disk. Had an old Sony Digital Mavica camera that you actually inserted the floppy disk in. Things have certainly come a long way since the early digital days. Serial No. 54KHK 2522, Belly No. 556-2326.It does have a trap door. I noticed it's only 3 numbers off from Erik's 54KHK. Kind of weird that these earlier ones had a trap door when Patrick's 54KHK 2540 does not. Stan
