Removing the gas tank from 53 K

Trying to remove the gas tank from a 53 K,Seems as though I need to remove the upper fork clamp to do so.Does this sound correct?any suggestions on how to remove without removing fork parts?

Bump, same problem, 54 frame with parallel stem forks.

Remove seat, slide tank towards rear, rear tank mounts should fit up over front seat mount.

Got the tank off!!! remove the fork tube caps,pinch bolt for upper tree,steering damper adjuster only and lift up on handle bars to separate top fork clamp from triple tree push it a little forward and you can clear the front gas tank mounting tabs enough to lift off tank.Was a terrible design from Harley.So much work to remove a gas tank.

I can't remember having any problems to remove tank on my old 53KK???
