New to site with questions on My K

Postby Tony » Mon Jun 06, 2016 9:03 pm

Hello,

Im new to this site and have some questions on a bike I just acquired.

the bike is a 1952 Harley Davidson K model. Ser# 52 KK 18xx this matches the title and engine stamping.

I have noticed that no other 52's are designated KK?

The bike seems to be somewhat stock and painted Black and red. It is in nice shape.

I need some parts?
The tank emblem and chrome strips.
Air cleaner and cover?
It has no horn? I have noticed this is hard to get.
Handel bar mount cover.

I tried to upload a pic but file size is too big. how do I shrink it and attach?

Thank you for any insight
Tony

Hi Tony
Welcome. The site will only allow 3 pictures at a time. Until you figure out how to shrink them yourself I will be happy to do it and post them for you. My email is [email protected]. People are going to want to know what your belly numbers are in order to better evaluate your bike. They are located on each half case in the vicinity of the drain plug. They will read something like 552-1234. What is important here is the first 5 numbers so you could x out the last couple, example 552-12XX. Congratulations on the new bike and project.

Interested about the 52KK designation - I thought these came out in 53?

Yes Simon and Tony, the KK came out in 53 as far as I know. Nice looking bike! Interested in seeing the number pad for more clues. One time prototype? It is a middle run K number since it is in the 800s.

Tony the KK came with racing cams that are easily distinguishable from stock K. Do they appear to have a radical idle or nice and smooth. There is a great difference. The KK-KHK cam set is close to the -53KR set for the KR race bikes. Erik K

I have not started it yet, It seems to have very good compression when kicked over. I have to spend some time going over it (wiring, carb, tank,). Has not run in a long time.

Thank you

Hi Tony, I hate to be a spoiler but the two K's seem to have been stamped with two different K stamps. The right angled line seems to meet the left vertical line in a different place. The KK stamps on my 53KK are the same and appear to have been made with the same stamp. Could this 1952 have gotten the KK competition kit installed and had the second K stamped in? A 52KK just doesn't make any sense but weirder things have happened. Would like to hear a few other opinions. Stan

No problem Stan. I had the same suspicions, However I did not want to discount the possibility of the bike being something special?

I have limited historical data on the bike due to the previous owner passing.

His collection was quite expansive with some very old and unique bikes. (1927 Ariel in pristine cond.) This 1916.
