Postby sean » Tue Oct 28, 2014 8:40 pm

im looking for some manifold nuts and seals for my 52 project and noticed the colony kits start at 53 and newer...are the 52 the same or was there a change in 53 to the nut size?i was told they are the same as late knucks and panheads...does anyone have a colony pn for a 52 k?

Hi Sean, K Inlet Pipes are all the same OD on the pipe. As a matter of fact the manifold, the modern term, is a -40 part number as is the insulator, nuts, and seals all -40. Only the insulator gaskets are -52 part number, and the same throughout the run, 52-56...I don`t know if they fit the BigTwin Flatheads or which model with the -40 number. The Cad Nuts & Brass Seal kit from Colony is an excellent choice. Most original nuts have those pesky chisel marks in them!

If would consider space age technology, instead of the problematical plumber style brass seals, you may like to order a pair of "PEEK" seals from Enfield Racing.
Their part #H-D 3 is identical to 27059-40 which suits all 1952-56 K/KH.
Have a look at http://www.enfieldracing.com/peek_seals_8.html

Do inspect the manifold itself. Quite often the diameters have been pulled-in by over tightening of the big nuts leaving it difficult to seal. I don't know the Peek seals but I always cheat with the stock ones by smearing a little non setting gasket cement (such as Blue Hylomar) on the manifold before pressing the brass rings on to fill any gap under the ring. If I turn the throttle stop out the motor quits so I can't have much of an air leak if at all.
