what I've seen is that when the cases come apart the speedo drive is broken and first gears are torn up

Mike earlier in this conversation you mentioned a factory supplied rear wheel speedo drive, can you expand on that.

I can't say what years they were offered but it was early before tack drive magnitos (mid '62) there was also a tack drive that ran off the mainshaft maybe I'm wrong about the supplier maybe they were Webco or another after market

The only factory rear wheel speedo drive I know of for these models is for the KRM/KHRM speedo, which was a Smiths unit.

Check the "KH and K Endurance Run Accys - Trans Oil Filler Cap" post no. 4 ... it shows the drawing and part number of the rear wheel speedo drive unit.

I have pics of the assembly somewhere - it’s an odd ratio from memory. I have the intention of asking Smiths if they still make it. I wonder what is needed to reveres a, say, 54 Panhead speedo to be reverse operation - a question I need to cast over to a rebuilder at some point...

It doesn't look much like a Smith bit to me!!!

This is curious info. Why reverse rotation ? Possibly because of the Smiths connection?

Patrick, and yet it is. Have pics somewhere and will try to find. I typed a longer response but it seems to have gone.

I wondered if a 54 pan speedo could be adapted also - need to ask a speedo chap.
