So Lisa came up with something.Let me know what you all think. If you go into the K parts book under Fork group,part#45515-52 "Front fork assembly {replaced by 45515-52A} below that part# 45515-52A Front fork assembly,52-54-All K models up to Motor No.2250,below that part #45515-54 Front fork assembly 54- Model KH from motor no. 2250 up.My motor the bike in question is #1751 so does this all mean prior to motor # 2250 they still had the cow bells?? Thats what Lisa is trying to state through this literature.Interesting concept dont you think??

Hi All
What I think, not what I know about the significance of VIN 54K-2250 is that HD went from what some people call the "raked trees" to the trees used through 58 for the top and to late 68 for the bottom. The early bottom tree has a -52 casting and the later has a -52A casting. The geometry of the top tree changed with the bottom tree. I don't believe this relates to the boots vs cowbells at all. I believe the boots were a model year change for 54.
Have a great day

+1 what Jerry says, it's to do with the angle.

And the new angle actually meant welding up some of the K trees (tops and bottoms) in inventory to make them like later KH cast trees and using them before introducing the new weldless castings.

Hence my querry elsewhere, my late 54 KHK, trapdoorless, #2540, had the welded K ones, but I would have expected them to be exhausted that late in the year... and have a trap door!!!

I have to say I agree with the responders, sounds more practical when you consider the numbers on the trees changing to a 52A designation for the angle change.

Angle change wasn't until 54 read the parts book again 52-54 then 54 2250 up - change read it over again everybody.

do the '52-'53 have a seal in the top ? my '53-'63 parts book doesn't show the cowbells or the seals but I think I remember a seal in the fork sliders
for the cowbell covered forks
