BRAKE SHOES FOR 53 K MODEL

I pulled the brake shoes apart today and found the shoes in the picture installed, actually look in descent shape...although I believe it would be better to be sure and replace them. But, my old bike manual says the part number should be 44402-52, but mine say 44415-52, which does not appear in the manual. Is this another case of the part being stamped different than the actual Harley part number?

Thanks again...

It's the part number of the shoes, which are not sold without linings. The part number in the book is for "Set of brake shoes and linings".

Read the Numbers section in Technical - under "Casting numbers".

Perfect, I had not seen that. That article answered a few of my questions.

Note that these are different than the 54 and later steel shoes. Actuator shaft and brake anchor are ware are different also. please reference parts books. What I have done is install over size regular sportster brake linings on the aluminum shoes. The brake operating levers are now in the correct position and the brakes are "as good as it gets". The problem is that the rivet holes are not in the same location on the regular sportster replacement linings. I am sure an old school auto brake repair place can replace the linings for you. I just like doing stuff myself.
