I am new to this group. But I am not new to sportsters. Most of the stuff I build is a lot later. I just bought a shed full of KR parts. One motor is stamped 55kr it has 54R cases,16581-55r cylinders and the 691 #7 heads. The pistons have a slight dome with no I.D. that I can see the top ring has a lip with a expander ring that it sets in it looks to be std. bore. I have bought the race hand book and a parts book but I am looking for a service manual with no luck.I know a lot of it is like early sportster but I like to have all the info I can get. Any Ideas or info would be a great help Thanks Tim

No service manuals were ever printed for the K series or any KR racers. The factory specification brochures are the closest and the non-illustrated parts lists.

Let me know if you decide to sell any of the KR parts - I want to put together an early KR some day...

Can you share your motor numbers? I may have some history. The dome piston heads are a 69R part number.

The #7 head is a for a flat top piston. Is the squish/quench area in your heads flat or arced to receive a domed piston? Images of a #7 head (for flat piston) and #8 head (for dome piston) are shown below.

That's quite interesting, as a privateer must have converted the #7 heads into the dome-piston #8, -69R heads. Has "the shelf" on the #7 heads been totally removed and you now have a straight open trough feeding directly to the domed squish area as pictured above for the #8 head? Thanks.
