Is a 53KRM Motor Suppose to Look Like This?

Problem is, Erik,

that the case bolt just below rear of rear cylinder on K cases is in the wrong place to make a stroker, being too near the crank, see my photo.

That bolt was moved higher (to the same location as the one opposite on the front of the front cylinder) in 54 to make the KH cases that needed deeper slots for the longer stroke…

Never check it cause my XLR is a stroker as well, but maybe more likely, the big eyes -54R rods need more clearance and someone tried to mount these in the earlier cases in question…

We need better pics!!!

Erik and Patrick, Forgot about it the last time I wrote about my '55 KR cases, and Patrick mentioning the rear case bolt jogged my memory. They had been pad welded on the over the rear through bolt behind the rear cylinder in order to relocate the bolt hole. Haven't looked at them for some time so forgot about that. They have a match number 555-xxxx and they are non trap door cases and they are ball bearing sprocket shaft, pinion shaft and camshaft. Ron

OK you guys, I am hanging my head in shame. You have all been great trying to figure out what was up with a 53KRM that isn't to begin with. Then I told you I screwed up and it was a 53KR which it turns out it isn't! It is a 56KR. After I post this I am going to go into a self imposed exile for at least a week to hide my head in shame.
Sorry and thank you,
JerryR

Pre 1952 Dealer Stamp VIN# indicates replacement / NOS case. You can almost see Cast Part Number. (56R?) Early dealer stamps were used until they ordered the 52 and up set. I have seen many like this. Legit, but not Factory VIN. Healthy KR cams are visible! Erik

Hi Erik,

If you are referring to the serif font on the KR letters, the race department used those stamps for race bike VINs, so these would be correct for a factory-stamped VIN. I too am curious about the casting number - early KRs were 53R - my 55 KHR was 54R as I mentioned. I wonder if this KR is also a 54R casting number.

The quality of the above images makes it difficult to decipher lots of things, but the casting number could certainly trick one into suggesting it is a -56R casting? Did they make -56R castings?

Simon, thanks for the note, that's good to know. Street Ks had the new -52 style factory. Replacement D cases often had older style because the stamps were there. Erik

Seeing these cases seem to have the 6 bolts trap door with 2 conical dowels, they can't be later than 1956 so must be right for that 56 KR, they are not replacement later KR cases that would have the 4 bolt Sportster type trap door.

So no probs for me, these are good and period correct, not that as you know I'd be that bothered about stuff like that on a race bike!!!

Here are two more pictures of the KR that my friend has questions about its' authenticity. I don't know that I'm clear on the groups consensus? Is it legit or bogus? What do you think of the Belly Numbers?
Thanks for your help

Still working, by Friday 13th, Full Moon I will have the answer... For now, I have been looking at KRxxxx numbers and I noticed this case has old style VIN stamps but new 52 and up Belly #S. I have seen KR VINs with just the old R and new style K & other VIN #s. See Old KR with new numbers following. I will ask some KR owners say by this weekend. Anyway if you have KR #s lets see them!
