Tank initials

I stripped the paint from an old XLCH peanut tank and found the initials- G.M.E. between the rear mounting tabs on the bottom side. The tank looks to be OEM and at one time had the internal vent tube. The letters look less crude than any of the stampings I’ve seen from HD.
Was G.M.E. an aftermarket supplier or subcontractor?
Or did someone just put their initials on it for an anti-theft thing?

They were aftermarket suppliers.

GME were around in the late 60's and 70's making all sorts of custom application and 'knock off' fuel tanks for British, American and Japanese machines. If you needed a coffin style tank for your chopper, GME were the go to mob. Cheers Hayley.

Thanks Mates; Good to know. I don’t remember G.M.E.- and I was on the Sportster scene back then. The tank is actually not a bad replica compared to what’s out there now.
Good luck with those fires- ABC said the conditions were worsening.
