Hi All,
Recently I've been examine K and Sportster transmissions 52-69 in order to produce an OSKRG Bulletin on identifying the different versions of the gears, countershafts and mainshafts. While sorting through what I have I ran into a mainshaft clutch gear that is a puzzler. It has 20 teeth. The PBs call for 18 teeth, 52 and 53, and 17 teeth from that point on? My brother said maybe it's a racing application? Any insights would be appreciated. I noticed something else while examining the K trap door with the 20 tooth clutch gear, as can be seen in one of the pictures that follow there was not a countershaft oilier plug. Instead there is a little cover that fits down into the trap door recess and shields the countershaft bearing. My fingers are pointing at what is there and what the PBs say should be there. It has inscribed on it "Torrington" and some patent information. The only part that I could find in the PBs from 54 on is the oilier plug? Any help with understanding the 20 tooth clutch gear would be appreciated.
