KH, throttle cable, carb, questions

Postby PeterB » Tue Feb 04, 2020 6:22 am

Hello,
still working on my KH
No way to start her until now
Carb is now out, main nozzle broken and the lower part even not there, hope to get the upper pipe easy out......and totally reseal necessary.
The throttle cable works not smooth, tried a lot. Push function. No spring to support backwards, correct !?
Any ideas, experiences ?
Any experience with this system, see attachment.....or others ?
greetings
Peter

Are you asking about the stock throttle set-up or a custom throttle linkage with return spring as you show in the image?

The one in the image, the orig set up without springs and no return function is strange for me...

Hi Peter,

erstmal Grüße aus dem Süden Deutschlands ...

The mechanism with the spring is for a pull throttle, which you don`t have if you are using the original handlebars. Additionally the throttle opens now to the other direction, which means, that you have to change the throttle plate inside. I have been through that with a Sportster linkert DC -- it works fine, but you need a pull throttle.

My advice is: Go with the original setup -- you will get used to it. You can replace the original solid wire with a bicycle brake wire. Works without any issues and the cable action will be much smoother. The problem with the solid wire is that any bend will increase friction and old wires will have several bends.

Good luck!

Hallo Ralf,
thank‘s
You are private or a dealer ? Maybe need more support to get that KH running.......
Peter

LinkertCarbs website should have Nozzle, Spring, Sealing Washer and other parts. Make sure ramps on Float Arm are smooth as glass where Needle rides. Neoprene Float is best. Original Brass ones ok too if check out ok. Replacement Brass Float will fill with fuel and sink. The threaded hole will not seal with screw and washer provided. So thread sealer necessary with that new style brass float where arm attaches. Set at 5/16" 8mm from top of bowl. Re bush Throttle Shaft Bores w Oilite 1/4" OD Bronze bushings. Fit better, dont wear or cut into shaft like steel ones. Bush if not 0 play. Carburetor Man Erik. Guten Tag!

Hi. The wire throttle must be in good repair, little oil helps, and direct or large curve routing. Any tight turns it will bind in housing. Where it comes out of Handle bar end is one spot. Any kinks and surely will bind. The cable end bracket on carb can be turned around for push or pull grip...Erik

Here is the problem with New Brass Floats. The new float should have had a blind nut installed at manufacture point. As is fuel runs past threads like a garden hose, filling it and sinking it rendering inop. Kaput. They give you a washer, thats just a trick. The Float Arm is slotted where it attaches to Float for adjusting to center it. So round hole, slot, you got a leak. The only way this will fly is to seal threads with petroleum resistant sealer. Than you still have the slot that doesnt cover the hole 100%.Yuk. Get a neoprene style, Rubber Ducky or such. Peter I have a large box going to Nick in Holland very soon. Could pass along carb parts if needed, I can ask him. Your parts may be available on eBay too. Erik
