Hello forum
I joined because I think the Sportster is THE best motorcycle ever made. I own a 1996 XLC 1200. But all Sportsters originate from the 1950s K model.

You have no argument from me on your assessment of these fine motorcycles.

Welcome to the forum and please have a Happy New Year.

Coolbreeze,

George - from your signature, I see you have an Indian 841. One of the Highlands Chapter (Virginia) boys rides his pretty regularly. You can see it at some of our events.

Correct me if I'm wrong but HD gradually changed the motorcycle from a street legal version of the moco's middleweight flat track racer K model into more of a middleweight sport cruiser increasing from 490lbs to 570lbs, an 80lb almost 20% increase total weight.

Too many times I read of people confusing the Sportster with a sportbike sinking thousands of $$ in a futile attempt to compete with rice rockets. Opinions?

I think this question would be better asked someplace like XL Forums.

On this site, we're more interested in restoration of the 1952 to 1969 K and XL models.
