From 1957, KR and later XLR do not follow the normal sequence, they start by 10xx or 20xx, the next 2 digits being the number made so far...

So 57 KR 1002 is the 2nd motor made that year, 1021 the 21st etc... Some years they made more than 100 KR, so you then get 11xx or 21xx

But those numbers would have been put on in the run through the numbers for all the variations for the particular Harley model or type KR XLR XLCH XLH.
There would not be a 1021 KR 1021 XLR 1021 XLCH and they would have followed the Harley odd number 1xxxx or even number 2xxxx. You're saying the race motor numbers were all made and stamped at one time in consecutive numbers? 1021 1022 1023 1024 1025 etc?

No, before 1957, KR engines are integrated in the normal K/KH sequence, so you can have 54 KH 1256, then 54 KR 1257, then 54 KH 1258...

Yes, KR and XLR are outside the normal engine serial sequence after 1957 so KR starts at 57 KR 1001 in 1957, then 57 KR 1002 etc

In 60, you can find both 60 KR 2001 and 60 XLR 2001

Patrick, so you could have a 57KR 1001 57KR1002 and a 57XLCH 1001 57XLCH 1002 and like wise a 60KR 2001 60 XLR 2001 and 60 XLCH 2001?
