Two Position Seat

Postby Zaemo » Thu Dec 17, 2015 4:45 pm

Thought I'd continue this in it's own thread.
The bike that just went on eBay has the kind you were speaking of, Dave, with the chrome bar. I like the later Sportster one for the Sportster of course. It seems to sit lower or that could be the frame change between the K and XLCH. ?

I realize it's a two position seat and not a two PERSON seat but I wonder if I could squeeze a skinny person on the back, i.e. one of my twins when they get old enough.

This has a piping on the side that reflects the tank shape. No idea if the seat is the same size or shares the seat frame or not.

It's a buddy seat, but indeed a "small buddy" seat!!! In them days of 100% red american blood, no guy would have minded the girl right there in their buttocks... But probably not a mate with a boner ; - )

The clue is in the grab rail at the back, ie not designed for the rider to grab while showing off to the girls his hands off handlebar skills... ; - )

The K one is sprung utilises the seat springs me thinks,

The later Sportster's ones are fixed by the huge bracket you can see on the photo...

You think the K seat is sprung? I wouldn't have guessed that.

Zeamo,

A quick look in the parts book shows the buddy seat is bolted to the seat posts which suggest it is then sprung.

There's nothing at the back of the K buddy seat to hook it to fender or fender struts as later Sportster ones are.

Boyz,

I'll let you know how this seat is connected when I get the bad boy home from Canada.

Yes very nice score. I have had good luck shipping with fedCo, Mary Wilker was my contact. She got my 1954 roller from Ohio to California, and all 6 of my Sportsters from California to Florida. It was about 600 bucks per bike. She gave me one discount for being an AMA member, and another for getting the bike on eBay. Be aware, there will be two warehouses--- one where the bike goes to wait for the long haul, and one where you are, where the long-haul truck drops it and a lift-gate small truck brings it to your doorstep. It was perfect-- I worried about parts getting pilfered and the nice guy that delivered it said they had cameras and people whose entire job was to make sure everything got there.

If you want her email, PM me.
