All my early K footrests are painted black. About 8 sets or so. I know later ones are silver. Of course mine could have been painted later but I don't think that is the case. Nothing shiny under the paint.

I do have that 1952-1953 front end with non-parallel triple tree that has cad-plated fork sliders. In another post you said it was a rare special order to reduce cost.

The picture I posted is over 800px wide, so you have to right-click and "view image" to see the whole sliders.

Who really knows just exactly what part came on your bike

By the exact reverse looking as when I'm looking at your all chromed bike and seeing what's been moded on yours!!!

If you see an original bike that's never been touched, never had a bolt changed, it is just VISIBLE and can't be faked!!! And that's why I'm personnally not that keen on restoration to suit the parts books and the judges... OEM and faded bikes have much more soul in me eyes... And if it's been moded 20 times in its life, what the point of bringing it back to supposed OEM aspect with parts that's never been on it to start with?

I'm also squarely on the "let live" camp, do as you wish as long as it's not becoming a religion that you try, with all the good intentions in the world, to shove down someone else unwilling throat...

Sadly, bolt loving can also soon take over actually enjoying your pride and joy on a real road!!! Then you've just become an anorak as we call them in GB... Collecting bikes shouldn't be a accumulation number's game like collecting stamps or calendars... ; - )

So long

Now, last thought of the day...

Why is it that there's only a finite and small number of old masters' paintings' restorers while I can find without any deep search a thousand restorers for bikes?

Is one restoring art that different from the other???
