Thanks Patrick, yes - when I had a close look with a Lupe (jewellers eye glass), there are tell tale signs of machining, faint but they're there. I think you're spot on. Would this be done in the factory? Cheers Hayley

No, Hayley,

Not done by the factory!!! And probably not by a dealer either... They knew better than alter factory numbers...

One of the tell tell signs of modifications is the fact that the serial is always stamped on the as cast pad, so any alterations will "stand like a sore thumb" as we say here in GB.

I understand police have acid etching kits that can reveal the original serial hidden but still there from the material distortion deep down underneath the surface of the ground down metal...

So there are ways open to you if you wish to discover the original serial...

Thanks Patrick, yes the police here in Australia offer a X-ray service that picks up metal distortion etc. for serial number ID, but I think you need to take a second mortgage to get it done - I'll check it out. Cheers Hayley
