Many cases have thread issues where the Front Chain Adjuster bolts on. As we know Cast Parts don't like having their threads worked excessively. If the chain is adjusted too tightly it will bend early Adjusters w/o brace, pre 58. Same time it's pulling on those bolt fasteners. With everything new and adjusted right it will be fine. If there are thread issues I use K cyl Base Studs, loctite Green, w XLR HP Nuts. Nothing clamps better. If you lose your Shoe, the chain can snap and stack. And another blown set is born. If the 3/8" threads are gone you can go with a cut down Small Block Chevy screw in rocker stud, cut down. Hard Flat washer and Nylock Nut. The crimped type I show is for one use only, not what you want. The siphon tube is obviously there on some early models like Dave shows. Dorman sells excellent quality studs all types...

On all my K models and sportsters 6 of them I put a magnet under the adjuster pad to catch any loose metal floating around and it worked great and still is after 7 years.
