If the casting number on your part ends in -52 you have a cast iron rear motor mount which was parkerized. If it ends in -58 you have an aluminum one, no finish required. A -58 casting number seems to indicate that it was first used in 1958, but a new -58 part number for what is probably the aluminum mount doesn't show up in the parts books until 1961. Mark

The cast iron rear motor mount would be the correct for 1959. It was used until at least 1960 because my original paint 1960 XLH and my Dad's very original but repainted 1960 XLCH both have the cast iron rear motor mount.. The correct finish is parkerized.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2017 :P I have many K rear motor mounts all painted black. Anybody know when H-D went from Black paint to Silver finish? Also I will examine my stock 52K for clues when back at the shop. I wonder if they were always plated but painted black for Ks. I've seen some parts on my K that appear parkarized than painted such as rear fender. I would like to thank all the K XL Club "non club" ;) members for all the questions, answers and information regarding these motorcycles we are so fond of. I wish you all the best for 2017 and good luck with your projects. Ps remember to ask a lot of questions :D Erik K

Did we ever nail down when the change was made from the small hole to the large hole in the cast iron mount? I am fairly certain that the smale hole was used through 57 but I don't know when the change happened to the large.
