I'm an electrician...

All the toggle switches I've ever seen are 12mm metric, 1/2"

Rotary switches / pots for guitars and radios tend to be around 10mm, 3/8"

I'll measure tonite the rotary one on the KHK...

... Paper template...

; O )

...I'm glad my instincts still work OK!!!

hi and thanks everyone for your replies.after 30 years messin with old harleys i have been bitten by the pre 70 sportster and model k bug.i have to admit previously i tended to not pay them a whole lot of respect due to the amount of p.o.s. 70's xl's that passed thru my shop.these earlier ones are a different world.my focus has been mostly pre war the last several years but about a year and a half or so ago i took a 62ch in trade and it took off from there.k stuff seems to be a bit difficult to obtain(not to mention most of time parts turn out to be sportster)and can be expensive.sportster stuff is pretty plentiful here in az and prices do not reflect era market as of yet so i have been buyin all pre 70 stuff i can in last year.most have been in chopper form sadly or a 60's motor in a 70's chassis.it seems for restoration or just trying to make a k or xl from this period factory correct can be challenging due to somewhat low production #'s and high %age of chopperfication(is that a word?)anyway im babbling off topic here.i think magnetosportster hit it best as to what i was looking for.the size of the light switch hole is different from -59 and -59A for new switch in 63,but theres still a problem if they started notching it in 63 also.this bracket(brow)i picked up recently has a 59A casting number and one light switch hole only, nothing else.unfortunately there was a domed indicator light mounted in the switch hole, when i took it out it appears someone filed the hole out to fit it.now i can fix it but i need to figure out if this is correct for the 62 i want to put it on.from what i now gather its not exactly but if i can get ahold of the correct rotary light switch and get it mounted in the hole right then appearance wise it will be correct i think? p.s. what the hell is the answer to magneto sportsters always start on _ kick? my answers seem to be wrong everytime!

heres a shot of the top.im wondering if that spot just to the left of the light switch hole where there is some sort of possible weld spot or something.is that the same spot where the notch would have been? my first thought was maybe someone filled in the noch? but looking at it closely there is no sign of any type of work except that little raised spot on the underside.the top line and edge line look to perfect,no sighn of machining, welding whatsoever so if -59A came into play with the new toggle light switch in 63,but they also started notching in 63 then whats with this one? was 92050-62 tach kit an option or regular equiptment on all late 62-65 ch?

heres another shot.do you think this is a -59A 63-65 cover with the notch filled in and switch hole enlarged that someone used on an xlh instead maybe? whats the deal with this question thing,it continually keeps telling me my answers are invalid.

ALL motorcycles start on the LAST kick. But only magneto Sportsters ALWAYS start on the very ____ kick.

Uh oh, folks, the anti-robot questions seemed to have trapped one...

BTW, to add more than one photo per posting, you simply repeat the process you did to add the FIRST one.

ok i guess im a robot cause no one word or number i can think of fits there besides final.plus the fact that the words "always" "start" "magneto" and "sportster" dont belong in the same sentence!!!
