Original paint 62 xlch?

Hi all, new to the site and I’m trying to restore a 62 xlch to stock. I’m going to repaint it hi-fi blue and birch white in a couple of weeks and was hoping someone on this site might have an original paint 62 that could give me a few measurements and or pictures of where the birch white and decal is applied to the tank…even better a few pictures with measurements. I know it’s a long shot considering most older sportys have been repainted a few times. I’m trying to get this bike as correct as I can. Thanks in advance for any help or advice, Dean

Well lucky you, it's not such a long shot. I have all the pictures you would need from an original paint bike that was in my possession. I photographed everything including the paint measurements. I also restored one in Hi Fi blue. I can't load the pics because there too big. I'll need to figure that out.

I am restoring a 62 CH as well. I am a few weeks away from paint also. Measurements of the original tank panel scheme would be extremely helpful! Mine will be black and white.

Thanks!!

I think it would be a good idea to have a section on the web site for paint color formulas and equivalents and tank panel measurements. I have a overhead projector and have enlarged photos from the various riders handbooks to actual size and made tracings of the panels.

Thanks Murph, your 62 is absolutely perfect and is exactly what I’m striving to do with mine over time. I apologize in advance for all of the many questions I have for you. Lol. I would love to see every pic you have of your old original paint survivor. I’ve searched high and low on the internet and there’s not many unmolested older sportsters out there so I agree with the other poster about starting a topic on this subject. I can contribute the modern paint codes for hi-fi blue and birch white if anyone needs it. Murph, if you can’t figure out how to size the pictures, you can email them to me and I will repost them on here for you. My email address is [email protected]
Thanks for now, Dean

I should have mentioned the measurements are crude do to the lack of time I had but none the less they would be a good guide. I wish I had them when the hi fi blue bike was being painted but that's how it goes. Here is the original paint 62.

Yes a seamstress ruler would have been better had I had one at the time, like I said crude but a guide.

Murph, you're a life saver!! I can't thank you enough!! That's exactly what I've been searching for and It'll help a lot to get my bike close to perfect. I've saved a bunch of pictures from the internet but they all varied a little and had I had no clue what was actually correct until now. Me and my painter thank you for this. I'll post some pictures when I get everything back together from paint.

More questions to come...Thanks Again, Dean

Does anyone sell the correct color tank decals for a 62 yet? I did a google search and nothing came up. After reading the tech section, I realized I have the Italian ones which are close but the coloring is off quite a bit. I wonder if I take the ones I have to a screen printer along with a picture of an original if they could design something closer in color?
