The vin shows to be too high based on the guess o meter on the technical page.

Do you have the belly numbers for comparison?

Looks dodgy to me. Factory race bikes were KR's.

I have no idea but if something funny was going on ,I would not think you would pick a vin that does not show up

People who are trying to circumvent the law will often use a partial known good number adding an extra digit or using a number outside the normal range of factory numbers.
Racers sometimes have two or more identical numbers on their race engines, but not "dodgey" numbers.

I have a set of XL cases stamped 57X - 7777. Those are clearly not factory numbers but not intended to fool anyone into thinking it's a legitimate engine VIN either.

But then I don't know everything, they might in fact be legitimate.

The pad has not been milled. Correct Stamps. The cast surface is intact. But, The number is bogus. Only around 1900 52 Ks were built. Numbers 1-999 have an initial #1xxx, Numbers 1,000 to 1900? have an initial #2xxx. So that puts this number at over 3,000 somewhere out in orbit. Strange case…Erik

Yeh seems weird, I have to get the other belly numbers
Hopefully tonight when it gets dropped off, but I did measure the pad you’re saying you think it’s been milled , as far as I can tell it’s measuring out at around 152” did send off pics to a couple restoration shops they said looks original unless they did a great job. But who knows.

Many years ago if you could get your hands on a set of New Cases (Dealers could buy them) they came without VIN numbers.

Someone unscrupulous enough could find the rest of the bike as "free parts" and build themselves a new bike.
