According to the information in the tech section; a1960 could have an option of a solid color in any standard color. Black and white, skyline blue and white are the standard colors. So does that mean a solid skyline blue or black is correct? Or is a solid white is also correct?

Birch white was the color of the tank panel in 1960, not the "standard" main color of the motorcycle. The standard colors would have been black or skyline blue, so I assume those would be the solid colors available.

That was my thought- but looking at the paint scheme, it seems there’s more birch white than color. It’s like a trick question. I’ll go with the Skyline Blue if solid. But, a solid Birch White wouldn’t look bad either.

The fenders were not birch white in 1960, so it was not a "standard color." Birch white was the tank panel.

I have my 1960 XLR 90% assembled. Painting sheet metal is next up. Black/Birch White, most likely. Maybe Skyline Blue/Birch White.

I want to get the 1960 two tone paint layout on the tank correct, even under the tank saddle/overspray, masking, etc, so I'm looking for an original paint tank to work from.

If you have a 1960 two tone Sportster tank to sell or loan, with a deposit, original paint, please let me know. Damaged or rough, OK.

Speaking of solid colors, my 1958 XLCH and is in solid Skyline Blue. Shabby, dented, but there to see.

Would love to see pics of your CH, as I'm about to embark on my 58 project shortly!

Getting close to finished on my 1960 XLR and want to get two-tone tank paint layout correct; probably Black and Birch white. Does anyone have an ORIGINAL PAINT two-tone 1960 tank they would sell or loan (with a deposit) so I can show my painter that somewhat complicated layout, color breaks, overspray in saddle, etc? (I have been down this road before and all the photos in the world don't work as a reference well as an original paint tank.)
Thanks!
