Seems everyone I've ever heard says the V-Twin stuff is to be avoided. Searching around for the -58 spiral seems to only bring up that one mfg. Colony has the other pieces like the plunger and the rollers and pin etc. Is there someone else making these parts I should be aware of?

I've read the same thing about aftermarket V Twin parts.Unfortunately,I got stymied into buying an aftermarket -58 spiral off of EBay.It was unpackaged and sold as original Harley p/n so I took the dive.Might have missed the fine print in my initial delight of thinking I solved one previous owner issue.I have read that some of the salty mechanics out there have a rework procedure to make them work as advertised. Is anyone out there familiar with what's involved with correcting the aftermarket spiral if it doesn't work? Some out there will say you don't need the manual advance anyway.I agree, but if the factory had it that way, I want it operating on mine.

paul here is some deeper info for your handle bar page.
i do believe this covers every production bar 52-72.

Good gosh this is fantastic. I will get these into that little chart and post as soon as its done. As I have said, that chart is a simple HTML table and if Dave or anyone else wants it, they can cut-and-paste it from the webpage. Rev 3 is on the way.

One reason I really enjoy seeing these things is that it shows a little of what Harley was facing and what they were thinking. When you look at all the possibilities of different handlebars in the early 1970s, it makes perfect sense why Harley just gave up and went to buckhorns switchgear in the lever housings in 1973. I have to believe this was part-and-parcel with their going to a disk front brake in 1973. I think most of us would agree that the exposed throttle and clunky switch housings are a lot less beautiful than when the handlebars had the switches and cables.

73 was the half and half year.
the only bars were bucks, and they still had the internal throttle (last yr for this).
but
the switches were now in the perches. and the wire ran along (rather than inside) the bar.
so
73 was the only year with internal throttle and external switches / wiring.

to identify these bars:
56083-73 rs two 1/8" holes along the underside of bar to accept spring clips that held the wires.
56084-73 ls two 1/8" holes along the underside of bar to accept spring clips that held the wires.

the one pc stainless bars with the external throttle debuted in 74.

I think there is an original? -58 spiral on Fleabay if anyone is still looking for one. At least the spiral is going in the opposite direction of any that I have.

Yup, that is a -58 spiral. There is a picture posted on page 2 that shows both spirals. Man, 44 bucks? I think I will dig out some of my spirals and list them on eBay this weekend.

This is the K/ Early Sportster section, right? Isn't the spiral sleeve common to both subgroups in operation and part numbers etc?
Didn't know I was stealing bandwidth away from you.

My apologies.
