Gasbox 1957 Sportster Header Pipe

Postby GaryM2 » Wed Apr 07, 2021 2:46 pm

Gasbox has replenished their stock of 1957 Sportster 2 into 1 Header Pipes.

Jesse at Gasbox did a great job reproducing these header pipes to match the originals. He lists these as fitting other model years too.

Here is a link to their site.

Has anyone purchased this pipe? Pros and cons. Also looking for a muffler. Any help appreciated. Thank you in advance, Tom.

Bot the pipe but I have one of the high pipe mufflers. Possibly better than original HD. One of the best mufflers I have ever seen.

Yes. About four weeks ago I got one of the second run pipes.

I can't tell the difference from my original.

Really, really happy.

But, expect the tight fit of an original. Hook the front and spread the rear pipe to fit and pop on.

I asked The Gasbox about 2 into 1 for K models, he says they have to make some tooling but hope to be in production by Winter.

To add to the previous pictures, here are some shots of the gasbox 2:1 and muffler mounted on my wife's 1967 XLH.

There's plenty of kicker clearance -- though everything is a tight fit.

Also, the rear end of the header is slightly misbent. It kicks the tail of the muffler in 1/4" and up 1/4". This seems very small -- but if you run low road clearance shocks you may find the swing arm/backing plate coming very, very close to the muffler. I simply released the muffler to header clamp from the support tube and spaced it a bit further out to give me plenty of clearance.

However, on the final install I did run into very, very minor interference between the right foot rest support and the pipe. It needed between 1/16 and 1/8th more room to fit without touching. I marked it and literally beat the nuggets out of it with a peining hammer. Took more blows than you'd think to bend it inwards.

Anyways, I've got zero complaints. All the clamps are also gas box repos -- the muffler support tube is NOT the correct one. It's a generic 65 and up style for dual independents.
